Religion of East Asia
The degree of religious pluralism that exists in East Asia has no equal anywhere in the world. It is the norm for people in China, Japan, and Korea to simultaneously practice worship of local deities connected with natural forces, Confucianism, and Buddhism. The majority of East Asians regard Confucianism, Daoism, deity cults, and Buddhism as complementary, dealing with different aspects of life. Unlike in the West, it is rare for an East Asian to feel that "being religious" means choosing one tradition to the exclusion of the others.
